10 minutes.

I decided to take my new toy out for a mini shoot, and had one place in mind that I have been wanting to explore for quite a while. Armed with my Lensbaby, I headed over to the Elsinore Theater in downtown Salem. I took a few snaps of the outside, fussing over exposure and reminding myself  I was still "learning". A wee bit frustrated, borderline pouting, I then noticed the main office was right in front of me. Venturing inside, I inquired if it was possible for me to actually photograph inside the theater. I was just an innocent photography student, after all.

"ten minutes"  the lady behind the counter said.

me~ right now?

"well, do you have your camera?"

( referring to the camera in my hands? uh...)

"I'll give you ten minutes, that's all I can turn the lights on for. The main theater is too expensive, so you won't be able to shoot in there, but you can have the lobby"

So, I happily agreed to her terms, and tucked a small lesson away for future reference. It never hurts to ask, you may be pleasantly surprised.

You may be granted ten sweet minutes.

The photos from the inside ended up with a dreamy, ethereal look. I loved the way the architecture was lit up with colored lighting. The purples and oranges were very vibrant, and the detail in the murals was beautiful.

My only reason to become a night owl.

Night photography. It's cold. It's dark. It's also one of the most interesting playgrounds to visit with a camera. Add a few glow sticks and strobes for fun, a few eager friends to run around in a bizarre fashion and amazing things will happen. Enjoy!
